Grants will not be given to homes where steps to minimise the amount of energy used have not been taken. These include good standards of insulation through cavity walls and lofts, using low energy light bulbs, and having thermostats in rooms and on radiators to control room temperatures. Some grants only have a limited life span and need to be spent within a few months - so ensure you are aware of this kind of limitation.
