Planning for Solar Panels

What if I don't want or can't have solar panels?

Planning for solar panels

Planners are often keen to avoid the use of solar panels in conversation areas; if you live in one*, it’s essential that you consult your local planning authority before starting this type of project.

* or in:

  • a listed building
  • a National Park
  • an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • the Norfolk or Suffolk Broads
  • any other local/national designation.

Solar roof tiles may be a suitable alternative, taking the place of up to five conventional tiles. A professional roofer should fit these tiles and a qualified electrician hired to set up the electric current converter and a battery installed to store the charge.

Most such tiles come with a five-year warranty, although a 20-year life expectancy is probably more realistic.
